Over the next two years, a host of elegant resorts are launching in the Maldives. Here are 4 new resorts opening in the Maldives between now and 2020.
1. OBLU SELECT at Sangeli
On 1 July 2018, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts will debut its latest property, OBLU SELECT at Sangeli. Located on the Male Atoll, this four-star resort will offer 137 contemporary villas over the water and along the beach, as well as several restaurants and diving spots. Newlyweds will enjoy the romantic honeymoon pool suites, which each include a private swimming pool. Families will also be welcome at the resort, which will have a kid’s club and recreation centre, in addition to daily activities.
2. Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa
Promising a “truly unique experience”, the Emerald Maldives Resort and Spa is scheduled to open in October 2018 on the island of Fasmendhoo in the Raa Atoll. Guests may choose from 60 beach and 60 overwater villas which blend contemporary style with tropical touches. Amenities will include a kid’s club, diving centre and gym, as well as a lush spa. Several restaurants will also be located on the property, including a South American-inspired steakhouse.
3. Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort
Hilton will debut a stunning new location in early 2019 with the opening of the Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Resort. A 20-minute boat ride from Velana International Airport, the property will spread over three islands in the South Male Atoll. Travellers will have their pick of 138 overwater and beach villas, including a four-bedroom presidential suite. Each villa will have ocean views and a private outdoor pool, deck area and Jacuzzi. A variety of dining options will feature as well, including Terra, an elevated treehouse restaurant.
4. Address Madivaru Maldives Resort and Spa
In 2020, the Dubai-based Emaar Hospitality Group will open its first Maldivian property, Address Madivaru Maldives Resort and Spa. Comprised of 80 beach and overwater villas, the resort will rest on the Ari Atoll, just a 20-minute plane ride from the capital. Visitors will find extensive facilities, including Spa Island and Water Sport Island, allowing them to enjoy pampering treatments and a selection of recreational activities, including diving, sailing and surfing. Additionally, several floating restaurants will provide a mix of choices.
